The best part of the project is to see that all our efforts paid off. People enjoyed the whole idea of taking a flower home and appreciated the 3D installation.

Each group presented their proposal to our collaborator Helene at Hulme Garden Centre. She then gave us feedback and we incorporated two design ideas to create a final design.

Donated glass milk bottles and jars were drilled with a small hole for drainage and each filled with compost and a plant.

DAY 01: 'Get introduced!' For the first day of our events, we had a field trip to the Hulme community garden. We met Helen (one of the trust member of the garden) to get some knowledge about garden and its clients. With a brief introduction on how she works we were also enriched with the heritage and importance of plants in daily lives. At the later day, we helped Helen in one of her tasks and learnt some basics of plantation.

Manual labour at its finest. Covering a side of a pallet by nailing down planks, however the wood was very tough to nail and saw through, making our job significantly harder.

Construction begins. Using basic tools such as saws and hammers, we dissembled broken pallets and used the planks to fill in gaps on the base pallets. This creates a flat surface for us to spray paint onto in the future.

Upon speaking with a UoM workshop technician, we became clearer on how we would construct the installation. We started designating jobs for people to do during the construction days, just so we work as productively as possible in our given time frame.

//TOUR & HELP
We went to the Hulme Community Garden Centre for a little 'Tour & Help' session and also to listen to a talk on home gardening. Among the community projects and installation that was located in the garden there was one that caught my eye that was the straw cottage (picture above). The interior walls were made out of mashed straw while the exterior was wood.
