Taking the children of Friars primary school on a tour of the School of Art. Here the children are being shown the various machines used for printing on to fabrics and textiles.

Some of the models on display in the workspace of our collaborators (Places).

On the tour i noticed how the children preferred kinetic learning in that they were inclined to touch and feel everything along the way in order to experience it as opposed to just looking and being told what it is. Here the children are climbing the stairs and are experiencing the rough texture of the fibre board cast concrete.

Day Four: Using the images drawn by the children on day three, to create short animations to show them!

It was interesting to see how the children could relate the materials to what they had seen during the tour of the building and make use of the materials in a completely different way to what they were originally used for.

(Day 2) We were given a tour around RIBA Hub by the collaborators and were shown projects in which children were involved . We also had a chance to observe the workshop area which exhibited the works of architects who have worked in the space.

It was really interesting to see how the children used their surroundings to form a picture. For example, they used the concrete tiles on the floor as a grid-canvas as a perimeter for their chalk drawings

(Day 3) As the children arrived, they were overwhelmed by the scale of the staircases in the Chatham building. They were also very fascinated by the height and could not stop looking up from the ground floor. We had to approach the school of art in a new way as we took the children around.

We went to visit the exhibition by Places Project in the RIBA Hub. What i found interesting was that they promoted us to use our touch senses to experience all the different materials used and not just experiencing with our eyes.

On the first day we brainstormed our ideas, of how we could visualise the journey the children will travel. It was interesting to see how each person could interpret landmarks differently with our imaginations.

(Day I) After the stories were created, we focused on building the structures, which would assist children with the building of their den. Materials such as brick, cardboard, wood, paper tubes, fabric and rope were considered.

Drawing!
In the afternoon, as it was a sunny day, we took the children onto the roof terrace. We gave them all different forms of drawing materials and gave them the oppurtunity to draw on paper and on the floor, pictures of what their dens may look like, or what the aliens could look like.

Meeting the children!
After we had come up with the two separate stories, together with the collaborator, PLACES, we came to the conclusion that the best thing to do would be to join the two stories together.
When the children came to University, after giving them a tour of the art school which they seemed to enjoy, we present the story to them and introduced the idea of having to make a den.

Day 1:
On the first day, we met up and had to come up with stories that would form the basis of the reason the children were making the den. We came up with two stories, one based around a secret city, and one based on aliens.
