After finding inspiration in a session of architectural films, we headed to the city centre to take some footage of our own.

Urban sketching.

On the first day with the urban sketching group we sketched spaces inside the Manchester Central Library and the sketch i was happiest with at the end of the day was this sketch of a hallway and staircase on the 3rd floor with a nice aesthetic.

This is an image of me editing footage of Manchester Piccadilly, the short video is called Movement in Manchester Piccadilly and I used Adobe Premiere Pro to edit.

This is the site chosen for Urban Sketching, The Library. We sketched with other keen artists and learnt how to sketch in confidence.

Creative Writing.
Upon receiving a talk on creative writing, we spent the day developing our narratives even further.

Day 4 - 06/05/14
Narrative.
There are many ways to depict a space. After exploring the medium of urban-sketching and filming, we were taught of the art of comic book-making.

We spent the morning exploring through Northern Quarter to get ideas for our story-based narrative. In studio, we were introduced to Archontia Manolakelli of the Manchester University Comic Collective where we explored our narratives in a form of a comic.

After compiling all footage from the day before, we started editing our film.

Urban sketching
Location: Manchester Central Library

Workshop on Comic-style architectural narratives with Archontia Manolakelli.

Slides and talks on architectural narrative in differing media. First talk on architectural narratives mixed with fictional narratives in theme parks by Alex Watts, followed by an afternoon workshop and talk from Archontia Manolakelli of Manchester University Comic Collective on narratives in Comic-Books and how this can relate to architectural spaces.

Using footage from the previous day, montaged with images and films clips from other sources, to create short films documenting the site.

An introduction to use of film techniques for site representation. Following an introduction to films which utilise different editing methods, students went on-site to film key interactions in a Piccadilly site.

First collaborator talk from Simone Ridyard of the Manchester Urban Sketching Group on the importance of sketching in different ways on the way in which we interpret the built environment. Following the introduction students looked at sketching the environment and interactions in Manchester Central Library.
