The final presentation was essential as it gave us a opportunity to receive crucial feedback which was given by the event leaders, David and Ed.
I found the whole event advantageous as it made me look how to design in a different way. Looking at ecological values and how we can improve them within architecture. Revolving the project around China Town brings culture into the concept also and is a great space in the city to study. In all an interesting event.

Construction: In the workshop, making the counter weights for the hydraulic system. Also to the framework we added more wooden panels and the logo for the bench.
Posted 15 May 2014 17:18
Unfortunately our collaborator Transport for Greater Manchester were unable to host the site due to not having time for granting the particular permissions so our final session consisted of applying our proposals in to the eightth floor of studio. We set up a screen that utilised existing frame and then used a halogen light for illumination. The overall effect worked well as shown with myself passing through the light, The installation was left out throughout the day and we noticed people using the shadows as we designed.
Posted 15 May 2014 17:04
This was our exhibition for all the proposals for the urban intervention for both sites one and two produced by the events participants from year 1 and year 2.
Posted 15 May 2014 17:02
On the last season of the event, we were all editing and finalising our process sheet before exhibition.
Posted 15 May 2014 17:00
This was my final process sheet for my proposal of the intervention for site two.
Posted 15 May 2014 16:58
Session five included making a scale model of our proposal to give a feel for how the installation would affect the site. We made a model of the site out of cardboard, and used a mobile phone to illuminate people and shapes to create interesting colourful shadows and effects.
Posted 15 May 2014 16:58
Session four was spent refining our design, and sourcing a digital projector. We set up the projector in a dark room where we could limit the amount of light being let into the room, we then created images that would be suitable to be projected on to the site. We then tested by walking past, interrupting the light and creating a shadow on to the wall, creating silhouettes in the process.
Posted 15 May 2014 16:58
Using my drawing I produced my final perspective, which included my intervention on site. My intervention is simply installing eight empty wall panels on site to allow artists and other people to gather to produce art exhibitions and drawings for people to view and appreciate.
Posted 15 May 2014 16:56
This is another perspective that I produced for my intervetion, this was a live sketch.
Posted 15 May 2014 16:52
Once I chose my site, I produced a live sketch to be used for my perspective of the intervention.
Posted 15 May 2014 16:50
I chose the first site because looking at the surrounding the walled had graffiti and beautiful art works; I wanted to include it in the intervention which I wanted to design for that area.
Posted 15 May 2014 16:46
On Monday 12th in the second seasons, we visited two of the chosen site for our project and we had to decided which one to work on.

This is one of my sketches that I produce d in the Central Library.
Posted 15 May 2014 16:38
In the second season of the event, we went to the Centrals Library to produce some live sketches. It allowed me to work on a skill that I had not touched on before; I am looking forward to doing more live sketches.

06/05/2014 Presentation & Field Survey
David Hainley gave a presentation on the research him and his student from China had found. In all the research was about the effects of climate change upon China. Ways that the Chinese government tried to withstand climate change were impressive.
During the field survey I tried to take inspiration from the presentation and try and improve China Town in an ecological way. Admiring the restaurants and shops I noticed back streets that were full of litter. I noticed it was mainly food waist. Which can lead to rats. Therefore my group and I came up with a proposal of using the waste food as compost to create a park and soil to plant.

A brief look at the app in development with property prices mapped onto the Manchester city model from Arup.
In this session we participated in a series of experiments to understand the concepts of gamification and game design. Specifically we played a game where we each received a rule that reacts to the physical environment around us using the if/else statement.

Since data obtained from the census was secondary (thus unreliable), my group went out and gathered primary data from within Oxford Road.
In order to make comparisons with our data, we selected several locations spread across the length of the Oxford Road corridor and interviewed a total of 250 people. Some of the questions we devised were so that we could obtain data not included in the census - e.g. their area of residence in Manchester. This would allow us to link our data to locations outside of the corridor. Above shows the data of 'other languages spoken' mapped as a percentage bar chart at their specific location.
We also managed to get a set of data on the nationalities of students in the University of Manchester, but these were omitted later on as they were secondary.
