Day4-
We finally created the structure for the mushrooms to be placed in.
Posted 13 May 2014 12:36
Day 3-
We finally decided on one idea, which was a blend of all three initial ideas. After we then started to experiment with the wooden crates we had collected

Event 08// Mush Farm
The new design was set up and it was very much evolved from their last installation.
Posted 13 May 2014 11:37
Day 5,
Today was an extra day in which we completed our construction. We used a new design of creating an arch way so we had to dismantle the crates in order to do this. we nailed them together and used the spare crates as buttresses to make it look more grounded in the site and also to be used as seating. Our site we used was the courtyard in the Chatham building.
Posted 13 May 2014 11:36
Day 5.5
This was the day we got to work on the structure in the courtyard. We worked as a group and with the help of other students to put the structure together. We used a new design to create an arch which went over the tree. This arch also had a seating area on either side. In order hold the arch together we nailed them.
Posted 13 May 2014 11:33
Day Six:
Today we set up our exhibition in 'Grumpy in the city'. Over the next three days we will all spend some time at the exhibition talking to the public and hearing their response.
Posted 13 May 2014 11:28
Day 2.2
We also on day two planted our mushrooms in objects we had bought in such as bottles and plastic bags
Posted 13 May 2014 11:28
Day 4,
We went out as a whole to get crates from the UOM building site and the building site behind the chatham building. In order to build our 1.1 structure.
Posted 13 May 2014 11:26
We devised a ratchet system of doubling the height of the shed in the event of flooding. This meant that the shed can be used as normal throughout the year with a ready made sleeping space available above when needed in an emergency.
Posted 13 May 2014 11:25
Day 3,
On this day we had the chance to visit Biospheric Foundation. This was an oppurtunity to speak the expect Vincent Walsh about the different systems of the biospheric farming they use to grow different fungi and plants.
Posted 13 May 2014 11:22
Day 4,
Today we changed the material we were using from plastic green smaller palettes to more industrial wooden palettes that are found on building sites. We travelled to two sites (one near Uni of Manchester on Oxford Road and one just behind Chatham) we then experimented with piling them up in different ways but we had to completely change our design as we didn't have enough to achieve what we wanted to with the plastic palettes.
Posted 13 May 2014 11:18
Day 2,
After the events introduction. We split up in groups of fours to come up with ideas of a structure for hand our mushrooms to hang off. Then we presented all our ideas, because we couldn't come to mutual agreement we merged all our ideas together.

Day 3,
We went to the Biospheric Foundation in Salford to understand more about urban farming and mushroom farming in particular. We spoke to Vincent Walsh to learn about the different systems that they use to grow different plant and fungi.
Posted 13 May 2014 11:03
Day 2.1
Today we all presented our group proposals and merged them together at the end of the day. My groups proposal was to create a pyramid shape that curved over the top and created a 'cave-like' shape that we could hang our mushrooms off (that we planted in objects such as milk bottles, and plastic bags). We merged our ideas to form a tunnel like shape of opposing pyramids as this incorporated the fluidity and the sense of a journey through the construction.

Day 1,
Today we all got to know each other and we were introduced to the notions of urban mushroom farming and the explanation of why we were doing this event. We learnt that in fact we were using coffee waste from the cafe in the Chatham Building and so I event incorporated recycling, 'using other people's waste'. We were told we would have to design a shelter made out of plastic or wooden palettes found in supermarkets to store the fruit and veg. We wanted to create something that we could hang our then growing mushrooms off in sort of a 'cave-like' way. Much like the examples the 5th years had already shown us in the presentation before hand so we got to work in our groups of 4 to come up with different ideas.

This 3D Sketchup model follows the same idea as before, with varying sized circles showing prices of different years. The simple difference being that the circles have been made taller to exaggerate any trends. It also ties in well with the other groups who have made 3D models of their data sets using Sketchup.

This map shows the difference in property prices over time. The different years are shown by the range of colours (Red-2014, Purple-2010, Aqua-2005, Green-2000, Yellow-1995). The varying size of the circles is in relation to the price of the property, with the bigger the circle being the more expensive the property. This was done by picking a certain pixel per price range (0-50,51-100,101-150,151-200,201-250,251-300,300+).

We had a group discussion in the morning, which resulted in the decision to not include areas that deviated too far from Oxford Road. This disregarded a main source of our initial data (Fallowfield), resulting in new data points being needed. We focused then on gathering data points from 1995, 2000, 2005, 2010 and 2014 which just focused on price.

We divided into sub-groups and specified which data would be of interest for us to collect. My group decided upon Property prices around Oxford Road. This Excel spreadsheet was the first set which I gathered (Focusing on 3 and 4 bedroom flats and houses). The other two group members collected data on 1/2 bedroom properties, along with rented buildings.
