Day 2: We began to further develop our ideas throughout the day. We established the we would only use part of the site by adding in hanging 'instruments' where the person could pass by and interact with the site by simply running their fingers along the strings which would make a 'chime' noise.

Session 1:
In the afternoon of our first session we also built preliminary structures which we intended for the children to use in the building of their dens. What we found out when building the dens was that the children's creativity extended far beyond our imagination. They began to build the dens themselves from scratch, meaning they did not necessarily require the help of these structures.

Day 1: Visited the site and watched how the space was used. We saw how the people only used the space for a matter of seconds.

By the second half of the day we presented our ideas in individual groups of 3's and 4's.

Our plan is to keep the main functions of the existing baths (swimming pool, gym, weights room) and add biospheric elements (vermiculture and mushroom growing in the tunnels, aquaponics in the defunct pool, cafe/shop and forest garden).

Session 1:
DENcity began with a brainstorming of themes and ideas upon which the narrative for the whole project would be based. We split into two groups to produce ideas for a narrative which resulted in the "Secret City"; a journey whereby the children of Friars Primary School would overcome the obstacles facing them on their way to the Secret City, where they would build the dens for watching aliens.

Day 6: Choosing the best photos and captions, and adding them to the booklet. Editing and finalizing our event's pages in the booklet.

Learning about Aquaponics. Nutrients from the fish can help plants grow, enhancing food production.

Presentation day - We presented our final ideas to the group. Slight changes have to be made to the alignment and layout of the page before final hand in.

Impressed by the children's self directed capabilities. They moved on from drawing out their imaginations / interpretations of their dens from paper to actual concrete floors without being told.

I started creating visuals for the landscape plans and spaces i was working on. This visual depicts a proposed outdoor play area just outside the creche space.

The den making process was so fun, and not only did the kids enjoy themselves they learnt a few structural tips in order to keep their dens up!

Finally, the den making day! The kids were overwhelmed with all the materials we had for them to make the dens out of, and they couldn't resist grabbing as much as they could.

Inspired by the kids drawings, we all got together and made animations from them. The best bit about doing this, was seeing the kids reactions to their newly animated drawings.

Having been a sunny day, we went out onto the roof terrace and let the kids draw up their designs with chalk. It was inspiring to see all the kids go off on their designs with such creativity.

Session 3 // Mapping the Corridor

After analysing both the 1991 and 2011 Manchester Census', the group collected the required information for the ward populations and the breakdown of the age groups.

From this, we had to work out the hectare area of each individual district with a singular ward and then work out the population as a calculated estimation. Once we had the scaled population, we were able to estimate the size of each age group according to the district.

We then began to map 3 of the districts as a GOOGLE SketchUp model, resulting in each age group in a single column. They've then been extruded upwards according to their individual population and colour coded to give the resulting early visualisation of the age distribution along the corridor.

Site analysis 2 involved visiting amphitheater located in front of Revolution de Cuba and taking a note of it’s the most important features such as the access from the street and contrasting to Revolution de Cuba silence which fulfill the space.

first attempt on creating a 3d visual mapping diagram for part of our data collection. The green person symbolized a percentage of over 95% of students who continue studies in every department of the university of mancehster. The red is a percentage below 90%. The bags aside these icons symbolize their employment rate after graduating.
